Are Brambles Green or Brown?

Are freshly cut Brambles considered green or brown in the composting sense?

I would guess that when they are young and tender (new growth) they are green and as they age and die back, they become woody and therefore brown. What I know for sure is that either way they compost very well as long as they are cut up - I run my mower over stuff like that.
