Hi - this is my first go at a hotbin. At the moment it is about half-full and has been going for a couple of months. The door / hatch is starting to bulge, is that a problem? Should I open it? The temperature is nice and high and everything seems to be breaking down ok in the bin.

The downward pressure of material causes hatch to bulge. There's just not much you can do but make sure the straps are as tight as you can get them or even add a third one. If your bin is only half-full, I wouldn't empty it just yet, as even removing a small amount of fully composted material can cause a drop in temperature and it sounds like your bin is doing just fine.
