Hello and a question about making bulking agent

Hi everyone i’m brand new to hot bins. My question is bout making your own bulking agent. We have a wood chipper but the size of the chips are larger than that which came with the hotbin as the starter pack. How much does this matter and how dry do the chips need to be? Any help greatly appreciated

Hi, I make my own bulking agent by composting woodchips in a large pile. I've found fresh woodchips tend to aggregate into large, mouldy clumps if used in any quantity. I think that is the reason you get semi-composted chips with the Hotbin. the woodchips work better if they are slightly damp. The only issue is that fresh woodchips take a year or more to become semi-composted.
