Moisture is fine - it needs to be moist. It's getting the mix and the airflow correct that is the trick. If the stuff at the bottom is completely sodden that might be blocking airflow. I don't think there is much that can go wrong with the air vent as long as you have it open. The only issue I found after a few years of continuous use is that algae-like stuff can grow on the inside of the vent and block the airflow. it needs to be blasted off with a hose or hot soapy water.👍 1Leave a comment:

Hi Jeff, Welcome to the forum. I've been hotbinning for two years now, and I have found it to be highly frustrating at times, but when it works, it is very satisfying. I think we all find a system that suits the ingredients we have to hand. I have recently found that adding stale bread is really helping keeping my bin up to temperature, but not everyone has plenty of this to hand. Keep us updated on your progress.
I'm still having trouble getting started I have watched Beanie and take advice from here but struggling to get any temperature
I have noticed that there is a lot of moisture inside i have emptied and refilled with lots of paper and bulking agent could the lid/air outlet be a problem ?
Will try some breadLeave a comment:

Thanks Strawberry
As with everything these days time will tell I'm 14 days in and struggling to get to temperature at the moment. I'm sure it will resolve itself over time I am reluctant to add to much from my dalek bin yet.
We have been watching Beanie composter and his processes with both his bins and find them very useful.Leave a comment:

Hello Jeff, it can sometimes be difficult to get a quick answer via the forum but there are some experienced composter on here and they will assist. I would also recommend looking at Youtube videos by Beanie Composter - all about his hotbin experiences and very helpful. Good luck with composting👍 1Leave a comment:
