New to HOTBIN

Hello
New to the HOTBIN. After a slow start (2 weeks) my bin is up to temp and steaming. A few questions:
How often do I need to drain the Leachate?
I am able to put in a lot of coffee grinds, vegetable trimmings, shredded paper, and wood chips. Next week I'll add some grass trimmings. Is it ok if it's dandelions mixed in with the grass??

Hello Heather, getting the bin up to temperature within 2 weeks is really good, you must be doing the right things.

Based on my experience and other comments on the forum the amount of leachate produced does vary a lot depending on material in bin. I would suggest checking it every 3 days at the beginning and see how it goes.

When the bin is operating in the green zone i.e. at least 40C then you can put weeds in and any seeds will be destroyed so it is safe to include dandelions with the grass especially if they have been chopped up a bit.
