  • Shredding compostable food waste bags

First post here - from sunny (not) Dartmouth! Good start and high temps , using for food waste mainly. Using compostable 25L bags and wondering how people follow forum guidelines to shred the compostable bags when used? Apart from anything else they are usually slimy etc! Thanks for any guidance.

Compostable bags need to be cut up or shredded to break down properly. In addition, if they put in as the are, they can form a layer and block air flow. You might get away with cutting them into larger pieces and screwing them into tight balls. I do that with the small compostable caddy bags. That seems to mostly work for me. I do get the occasional bit coming out the bottom, but it goes straight back in the top.
