Last week I noticed a strong smell like sewage coming from our bin. In previous weeks I had noticed loads of earthworms trying to get out, but ending up falling off the walls and being 'cooked'. I tried to liberate a few but it was difficult. Eventually I emptied the bin and identified a very foul smelling shitty mass below the bottom tray with holes in. I held my breath and emptied the stuff out, cleaned the bin and started again from scratch. I wish I had used a face mask! I have added 2 worm sized holes at the top of the bin allow any worms to escape and to stop this happening again.
Since then I've felt ill and today - 7 days after I emptied the bin I noticed that my poo smells the exact same smell of the dead worm sludge. My doctor has requested a stool sample which has been sent for laboratory analysis. I'll update you with the results.
