You can't simply leave the drain cap open as this would let too much air in.
To avoid this problem, make a small slit in the neck of a plastic milk container. I use a 4 pint one.
This will allow you to push the container onto the thread of the drain outlet.
The HotBin can now drain continuously without letting air flow in.
Depending on how much leachate you're producing, you can leave this for a day or two and it's then easily slipped off to empty and then pushed back on.
