    Oh dear. I think the main thing to do with rats is to keep on disturbing them so they don’t want to establish a nest and stop them chewing holes. Got a cat or dog to patrol it?

    Rat damage

    I’ve not had much success with my hotbin, I’ve had it for three years and only had two successful loads out of it, mostly I have had to dig it all out and put the contents into my green bin for the council to deal with as it just never got hot enough, and we stopped putting bones into it as the dogs were finding them later in the garden after we had spread some compost. This winter the rats ate their way into it in several places and we are trying to repair the bin with expanding foam and chicken wire which is very disheartening
