Adding snails - is it cruel?

This is slightly off topic, but wanted to ask - we get hundreds of snails (and a few slugs) in our small garden, and we have taken to gathering them up and putting them straight in the hotbin. I just wondered - do other members think this is cruel?!

No they will die happy gorging on all the waste. What a way to go if you are a snail. Caleb

I think it is actually a very good idea to put them in. Thx for the tip . I have no mercy with snails and agree with Caleb that it's a great way to let them die this way instead of being crushed.

It's true, though they crush easily with bare hands if they're hot...
